Chemiluminescence. Becca Goldsteen and Justine Soukup. The purpose of this lab was to explore spectra of chemiluminescent reactions using a dark box and a spectrophotometer. Single-colored glow sticks were tested in the box and the spectrophotometer was used to measure their intensity and absorption. Three separate mixtures all containing lucigenin, distilled water, hydrogen peroxide, sodium hydroxide, and ethanol were prepared. The first contained 5% ethanol, the second 25% ethanol, and the third 50% ethanol. However when the first solution was tested, it did like illuminate. As a result, the other two were not tested.
